Name: Opal
Age: 40
Blog Name: The Akamai Reader
What’s the story behind the blog name?
Akamai is a Hawaiian word that means “to think” or “to use your head”. I thought it was appropriate to use in conjunction with reading since that’s what we do when we read! I also live in Hawaii so that’s why I chose a Hawaiian word.
Why did you start to book blog and how long have you been book blogging?
I started my blog in January of last year. I started it because I wanted to do something productive with all my reading time and because I wanted to share my love of books.
Where is your favorite place to read?
I love to read in my chair in the living room. It reclines and my cat, Quincy often likes to sleep on my lap there.
E-book or Hardcopy? Why?
I love my Kindle because I can carry around hundreds of books. If I finish a book I never have to worry about carrying an extra weight book. I can also have a variety of books to choose from.
Favorite book of all-time and why?
“Pride and Prejudice” is my favorite book. I love the character development and the banter between Elizabeth and Darcy. It also has to have the best romance of all times.
Do you have any blogs/bloggers that you look up to or that inspire you (feel free to name-drop)?
Lee at She-Wolf Reads is a constant support. She’s also incredibly inspiring.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m a mixed-media artist. I love to paint. Sometimes I’ll also knit or crochet, but I love to shop. I’m a huge Nordstrom whore and  I adore Sephora.
Name a dessert, a color, a drink?
Chocolate Lava Cake, Blue, Long Island Iced Tea
If you could be one character, who would you be and why?
I’d pick Mercedes Thompson. She can kick ass and she’s not afraid of showing her vulnerable side. She’s also a shifter. I’ve always wanted to know what it would be like to shift.
How many books (on average) do you read a month?
About 16-20 depending on how much time I have and how good the books are.
What are your favorite book-to-movie adaptations? Why?
The first Never Ending Story was an excellent adaptation. It captured the magic of the book perfectly. In fact it was almost better then the book!  The relationship between Balfour and Bastian was expressed with emotion in looks and gestures and that was hard to compete with.
Do you have any book boyfriends? If so, name them and explain why?
If Damien from Obsidian were even ten years older, he’d definitely be boyfriend material. He’s hot! Even with his prickly personality or maybe because of it I find him irresistible. The way he’s protective of Katy and his family melts my heart. I’ve never had that in my life.
Akiva from Daughter of Smoke and Bone is another. I love his devotion to Madrigal and Karou. I love his sensitivity for other and his drive to do the right thing.
Name 5 books that everyone should at least read once:
1.Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
2.Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
3.1Q84 by Haruki Murakami
4.The Woman in the Dunes Kobo Abe
5.If I Stay by Gayle Forman
What is your dream job?
PAID Book Reviewer

HAHA, don’t we all wish we could have that job?! I envy the people who do have that job! If I could get by with just working on my blog and reading and reviewing books, I’d totally take it!

What book are you most looking forward to reading?
It’s hard to pick just one so I’ll have to pick three: the first is Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger; the second is the third book of the Princess of Twilight and Dawn series by Jes Young, it doesn’t have a tittle yet; the third book is Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Opal, it was so great getting to know you! And I am so glad that I was able to feature you! Can’t wait to have some book talks with you! xo
