Paige knows evil exists in this world, but she never imagined it would want something from her. After a ghostly voice whispers a haunting message to seventeen-year-old Paige Reed, Paige’s life takes a nightmarish turn. Unwilling to tell her friends about the supernatural occurrences happening in her life, Paige feels more alone than ever–until she meets Nathan Caswell. Nathan is not only hot, but seems to peer into Paige’s soul, evoking a magnetic energy between them that cannot be denied. But he’s no ordinary guy. He tracks dark spirits, and becomes alarmed when they set their sights on Paige. And then there are the two power-hungry dark spirits who believe Paige can find King Solomon’s magical ring for them, because when her father was alive, he was close to finding it. If Paige doesn’t comply with their demands, they’ll kill her.
Paige is forced to dig deep into her father’s past and unearths shocking secrets about him and his bloodline. With the past and present colliding, Paige is only sure about two things in her life: she needs to outwit the dark spirits to stay alive, and she’s completely and helplessly in love with Nathan.

First Lines:
“I never thought I would die at the age of seventeen, so when I received the death message, I was a little freaked out.”
My Thoughts:
If that first sentence didn’t hook you in, I don’t know what would. Rebekkah’s first lines of the main character dying at the age of seventeen, yet she is still narrating the story is quite intriguing in itself. I really enjoyed this book and I absolutely need to read the second one that just came out this past week or two. Rebekkah’s writing is wonderful. I didn’t see many typos and if I had, I didn’t notice them because I was so engulfed with the story.
Paige Reed is a wonderful main character. There were times were I just wanted to smack her but then I thought about how I was at the age of seventeen and then I refrained from those thoughts, because I was the same way; in fact I think most of us were. Paige has had a crap-load of heartache and hardships within her short life. I related with her on many aspects. Then enters Nathan Caswell (what a kick ass name, right?) He is hot, sexy, older, drives a truck, protective, gentlemanly, caring, sweet, and so many other things. They fall in love at first sight. Which is cute but not that realistic, but the reader can get over that. At the beginning it was a little weird between them how it started so fast and they fall so fast, but I got over that.
From the beginning to about 40% into the book, I kept trying to figure out what the paranormal/supernatural beings were. At first I thought vampires, but then I thought werewolves. And then after that, I just couldn’t figure out what it was. Paige has premonitions and her ears ring and she didn’t know why until Nathan explained everything to her because the same thing happens to him, minus the premonitions, of course.
I loved all the characters and I think that’s how Rebekkah wanted it to be. Tree and Carrie are awesome. I even liked Matt a bit, but something just irritated me about him. But Rebekkah writes her characters so that her readers care about them, and I really like that. And we really see Paige grow emotionally, which I really liked. I hope to see her continue her growth.
All-in-all, I really enjoyed this book and I will be reading the second book as soon as I possibly can, so that I can continue on with this amazing story! You should all at least give it a chance if you like paranormal stories with a romantic twist and a few love triangles. :]
Memorable Quotes:
“He opened the passenger door, and I hopped in.”
—How sweet is that?! My boyfriend does this for me every so often and I just love it!
“”Fine.” I released my hand. “But if you die, I’m killing myself, and then I’ll find you and kick your ass.” I would too. I’d kick his ass for eternity.”
“He had the body of a champion gladiator who could take on two lions at once.”
“So when he came back from the store with several large bags of ice and dumped them into the tub, I did the most childish thing I could ever have done in his presence. I locked myself in my room and prayed he’d forget about this whole thing.”
About the Author: (from Goodreads)

Rebekkah Ford grew up in a family that dealt with the paranormal. Her parents’ Charles and Geri Wilhelm were the Directors of the UFO Investigators League in Fairfield, Ohio, back in the 1970s. They also investigated ghost hauntings and Bigfoot sightings in addition to UFO’s. Growing up in this type of environment and having the passion for writing is what drove Rebekkah at an early age to write stories dealing with the paranormal. At one point in her life, she thought she wanted to be a journalist, and although she enjoyed writing articles, she quickly discovered her real passion was writing fiction. Her fascination with the paranormal is what led her to write the ‘Beyond the Eyes’ series.

Title: Broken Wings
Author: Shannon Dittemore
Series: Angel Eyes Trilogy, #2
Publisher: Thomas Nelson, Inc.
Release Date: February 19, 2013

Average Rating: 4.63
Challenge: 2013 Page Challenge- 311 pages

Giant angels with metal wings and visible song. A blind demon restored from the pit of darkness. And a girl who has never felt more broken. Brielle sees the world as it really is: a place where the Celestial exists side by side with human reality. But in the aftermath of a supernatural showdown, her life begins to crumble. Her boyfriend, Jake, is keeping something from her—something important. Her overprotective father has started drinking again. He’s dating a much younger woman who makes Brielle’s skin crawl, and he’s downright hostile toward Jake. Haunting nightmares keep Brielle from sleeping, and flashes of Celestial vision keep her off kilter. What she doesn’t know is that she’s been targeted. The Prince of Darkness himself has heard of the boy with healing in his hands and of the girl who sees through the Terrestrial Veil. When he plucks the blind demon, Damien, from the fiery chasm and sends him back to Earth with new eyes, the stage is set for a cataclysmic battle of good versus evil. Then Brielle unearths the truth about her mother’s death and she must question everything she ever thought was true. Brielle has no choice. She knows evil forces are converging and will soon rain their terror down upon the town of Stratus. She must master the weapons she’s been given. She must fight. But can she fly with broken wings?

First Lines:
“Hell is loud. Talons scratch at the stone floor and clack against the pillars circling the chamber as the great hall fills.”
My Thoughts:
Broken Wings was a brilliant addition to Angel Eyes. It picks up pretty closely to where Angel Eyes left off and when you first start reading it, it seems that Brielle is doing pretty okay with moving on from Ali’s death. However, things start to spiral downward; her dad starts drinking and dating someone that Brielle isn’t fond of, Jake is hiding something, and to top it all off she is getting nightmares. To top it all off, Brielle finds out the truth about her mother’s death in this book.
The Prince of Darkness sends Damien after Brielle and Jake. He finds out about how Brielle can see the Terrestrial Veil and about Jake’s healing hands, like his own. It’s a battle of good vs evil. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. And a great ride.
I think Shannon did a wonderful job at the continuation of this story. Broken Wings was a book I couldn’t put down. It kept me interested and I loved every bit of it. Broken Wings will make you eagerly anticipate the third installment. I, personally, cannot wait to finish this trilogy with Dark Halo coming in August!
Memorable Quotes:
“They laugh, Dad’s face turning fire-truck red. “Break a leg, baby.” Anybody’s leg?”
“”I’ll be here,” Jake says, “holding my tutu.” “And my heart,” I tell him, as theatrically as I can muster. “I really am going to vomit.” Kaylee shoves me, and I slide toward our little dancers, all fidgeting and waving at the crowd.”

Pain is to be tackled. Mountains are to be climbed. And while you may fall into dark places along the way, light is as close as the prayer on your lips.”
