The Reasons Why I Failed NaNo 2015
NaNoWriMo 2015 was a total fail for me. I really wanted to accomplish writing the first 50,000 words of one of my (many) started novels. And I was doing fairly well up until I got sick about 7 days into it. By that time, I was only about 1,000 words behind schedule which was fine and I was hoping to knock that out once I got better. Day 7 was a Sunday so Day 8 was a Monday and I stayed home from work that Monday. Then I got back to work on that Tuesday and was SWAMPED through the entire week. By the time, I got home from work, I didn’t want to look at my computer. So, then Day 14 I got another 1K down but I was so behind!
Then I got another shitty work week to where my desk at work was covered with paperwork. So another Mon-Fri that I wasn’t able to do any writing. Then Saturday Nov 21st happened. Joe and I had a benefit to go to and then we had our Friendsgiving party to go to. And when we got home from Friendsgiving around 3 am that Saturday night/Sunday morning, my throat was hurting. So, all day that Sunday I laid around drinking so much hot tea with honey and getting sleep. That following Monday, I went to work but probably shouldn’t have. That Tuesday, I stayed home from work. That Wednesday, I forced myself to go to work because if I didn’t go, then I wouldn’t have gotten paid for the Thursday and Friday for the Holiday. Finally, on Thanksgiving I started to feel a bit better but that was a busy day.
By the time that Black Friday came around, I looked at my word count and just gave up. There was no way that I was going to write 38,000 words in 3 days. I was really hoping to make 2015 the year, but that was just not in the cards.
Plans for January 2016
So, my friend Dana asked me a few days ago if I wanted to do a Fake NaNo in January. And, of course, I said HELL YES. Since we both failed miserably last month. So, this month, I will be going through all of my projects (and saving up for my new laptop) and figuring out which project I will be finishing in January. I’m going to push myself to do 50k in Jan, but if I could, I’d like to finish one of the projects as well. So, if that means I need 60k in Jan, then that’s what I want to do. 🙂
I’m going to attempt to do 50k and/or finish a project. But the main thing I want to happen with this month long project is to write everyday. Whether it be the 1613+ words a day to make 50k by the end of the month or it be less. I just want to write at least everyday!
