NaNoWriMo? What is that?

NaNoWriMo is back and I’m more excited than ever! For those of you who don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, it is an acronym for National Novel Writing Month that takes place every November. And for those who sign up they have to attempt to write 50,000 words of a novel in 30 days. They also have Camp NaNoWriMo every April and July and those months you make up your own goal of words. I have been participating in NaNo for a while. I think this is my 4th year doing it. While I’ve never won, I have a feeling that 2016 is my year! I’ve already got my shirt and mug for the month and I even went as far as pre-ordering my winning t-shirt! Yes, you read that right. I freaking pre-ordered a winning t-shirt and I’ve never won before in my life. That is how confident I am this year!

My Project

One of the reasons why I think that I will accomplish a winning status of at least 50k words this year is because I’m not working on a solo project. I am collaborating on a story with my dear friend Dana from DanaSquare! Y’all know that me and Dana do a lot of things together. We’ve created a book club that we run on Goodreads, Square in Wonderland. We have participated in events together. And now, we have decided to try and make both of our dreams come true and write a story together.

Granted, my goal is to write 50k words but so is Dana’s. So by the end of November we are hoping to have 100k words of our story written and if we accomplish that, we will have a complete rough first draft and we can enter the revising stage.

The Story

our mock cover for now

Working Title: A Thousand Dying Stars
Genre(s): Young Adult, Sci-fi
Summary (from our NaNo Profiles): It’s a YA Space Opera, dealing with a ragtag team of misfits, secrets, and a rebellion against a Galactic War.

Both of us have never written a Sci-fi but we both love the genre! I’m a very eclectic reader which shows in my writing as well because I love to write fantasies, contemporaries, paranormals, etc. Now, I’m dabbing in the sci-fi world. I love where our story is taking us (we have a pretty full outline already, we just need to outline a couple of chapters) but what I fell in love with the most are the characters! Our story is very character driven and it’s going to be so exciting going through these characters as they attempt a heist and all the obstacles that get thrown at them.

The Instagram Challenge

We both wanted a way that we could document this journey we’re taking together. Obviously I’m not going to be doing daily blog updates on how my writing day has gone. But I’m going to attempt to do a small photo challenge on Instagram and put in my daily word count. And we’d love it if you all joined us for it! If you’re interested here is the picture and the hashtag to use for the challenge is: #2016NaNoWriMoIGChallenge

The Near Witch [Review]

The Near Witch [Review]

Posted October 30, 2016 by Emily in Review / 0 Comments

My Thoughts V.E. Schwab is a brilliant author. After reading A Darker Shade of Magic, I knew I needed to read anything and everything she wrote. So, I started at the beginning. The Near Witch is an unique and eerie tale, and it’s hard to believe that this was Schwab’s first published novel. First, the writing is […]

The Ex [Review]

My Thoughts I suppose I should be calling this a DNF review. However, I did, technically, finish the book. But only by skipping through huge chunks of the story…just so I could see the answers to all the mysteries and questions presented in this book. I think my main problem with this book was the […]

Review: Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

At this point, I would read Jay Kristoff’s grocery list. This is my top book release of 2016, and sitting pretty on my all time favorite’s shelves. I own the ARC, the Us edition, and the UK. I guess you could say I’m obsessed. If you’re looking for something that’s blood bath meets Harry Potter, […]

Review: The Diviners

Omigoodness this was a creepy one! I’ve had this book sitting on my TBR shelf for way too long, so in the spirit of Halloween I decided to pick it up. I totally didn’t think I would love it as much as I did! It takes place in 1920’s New York (are you sold yet?) […]
