writing-update

November 1st 2016, I started writing for NaNoWriMo 2016. The goal is to hit 50,000 words of your novel from Nov 1 to Nov 30. And I can honestly tell you that for the first time on my FOURTH Nano… I HAVE HIT 50K! I am so unbelievably happy that I could cry right now!

Now, back when I announced that I was joining Nano for the 4th time (see post here) I mentioned that I was working on a collaboration project with my friend Dana from DanaSquare. Now for the first 2 weeks, that it what was going on. And I wrote about 11-12k words towards the beginning of that project. But, unfortunately, life and school got in the way for Dana and we still had some plot holes to fix for Act 2 of our project. So I decided to start working on another project of mine while she was focusing on her studies. Now, yes technically I don’t have the first 50K words of 1 novel but it’s 50k words of 3 of my stories. And some people can say that that is cheating. But honestly… I WROTE FIFTY THOUSAND COHERENT WORDS IN THIRTY DAYS! That, my friends, is an accomplishment! Especially since, I’ve never even come CLOSE to that EVER! The closest I ever made it was 20K in 30 days.

I am a NaNoWriMo 2016 Winner and I can proudly wear the winner’s tee that I preordered. It was looking pretty sketchy for me at one point during the month because going into the Thanksgiving holiday I was only halfway through. But I persevered and just kept writing. And next year, I have full confidence that I will be able to conquer 50K of ONE novel because now, I know that I can write 50K in 30 days!

Let’s talk about it! Did you participate in Nano this year? Did you win? Are you proud of yourself? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

  1. Yay! So happy for you! Congratulations!!! It feels so good huh!
I wrote 60K this month, 8 chapters towards my rough draft and it feels pretty good. I’ll probably finish it up in April’s camp or maybe both camps. This was year ten for me for Nanowrimo and my 7th win (counting camp) but I’m confident that I can win each November now because of last year’s experience.
I know you can to it too! Good luck in all your endeavors!
