Presented by James Patterson's new children's imprint, this deliciously creepy horror novel has a storyline inspired by the Ripper murders and an unexpected, blood-chilling conclusion...

Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord's daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.

Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

The story's shocking twists and turns, augmented with real, sinister period photos, will make this dazzling, #1 New York Times bestselling debut from author Kerri Maniscalco impossible to forget.

My Thoughts

Oh my, why did I wait so long to read this?! I was lucky to have gotten an ARC of this at BEA16 when it was in Chicago and I cannot believe that I not only waited to read this after it published but after its sequel published! I loved it so much that I am going to be reading Hunting Prince Dracula fairly soon within the new year.

I ended up really like Audrey Rose. I know a few people who didn’t really like her as a character, but I ended up really liking her. What I really loved, or rather I should say WHO, was Thomas. Oh my lord there were times when I was listening or reading and he said something and I just cracked up and laughed out loud. I remember driving home and he said something and a snort came out. I really enjoyed his character and I really enjoyed the developing relationship between Audrey Rose and Thomas!

I will say that the mystery aspect was fairly predictable and I had actually known who the killer was at page 56. I kid you not, I told my husband at page 56 who I thought the killer was and at the very end when it was revealed, I was correct. But even though it was predictable, it was a lot of fun to read and I really enjoyed the story itself.

I loved Kerri Maniscalco’s writing and I highly recommend this for anyone looking for an easy historical mystery with some awesome characters!

Geekerella [Review]

Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic science-fiction series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck and her dad's old costume, Elle's determined to win - unless her stepsisters get there first.

Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons - before he was famous. Now they're nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he has ever wanted, but Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake - until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise. But when she disappears at midnight, will he ever be able to find her again?

Part-romance, part-love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom.

My Thoughts

You guys… this book was super cute! And it totally made me rewatch A Cinderella Story (with Hillary Duff and Chad Michael Murray)! Cinderella isn’t usually my favorite retelling only because there are so many Cinderella retellings, but I get why. It’s a great plot line and easy to change up and make unique.

I really appreciated that this book brought out all the geeky/nerdy stuff! It was seriously an ode to geeks and it was so much fun to be immersed in that world. I also related to the main character, Elle, pretty well. She is a redhead and she’s a blogger/writer (I believe she wrote fanfic, if I’m not mistaken).

It was cool that part of this novel was written in an epistolaric format because those are always so fun to read. And it was fun to read the texts that Elle and Darien were sending to each other without even knowing who the other was.

All-in-all, this was a really fun read and if you read and loved Fangirl, I think you should try this book!
