From #1 New York Times bestselling author duo Erin Watt comes the addictive contemporary tale of a teen rock star in need of an image makeover and the teen girl hired to be his fake girlfriend.
Meet Oakley Ford-teen celebrity, renowned pop star, child of famous movie stars, hottie with millions of fangirls… and restless troublemaker. On the surface he has it all, but with his home life disintegrating, his music well suddenly running dry, and the tabloids having a field day over his outrageous exploits, Oakley's team decides it's time for an intervention. The result: an image overhaul, complete with a fake girlfriend meant to show the world he's settled down.
Enter seventeen-year-old Vaughn Bennett-devoted sister, part-time waitress, the definition of "normal." Under ordinary circumstances she'd never have taken this gig, but with her family strapped for cash, she doesn't have much of a choice. And for the money Oakley's team is paying her, she figures she can put up with outlandish Hollywood parties and a team of publicists watching her every move. So what if she thinks Oakley's a shallow, self-centered jerk? It's not like they're going to fall for each other in real life…right?

My Thoughts

I loved this book. As much as I loved their previous series, The Royals (see Paper Princess review and Broken Prince review), WHEN IT’S REAL solidified the bestselling duo as autobuy for me! That’s how much I loved this book! And it was exactly what I needed! We all know that I’ve been on a real struggle bus with reading and blogging ever since I found out I was pregnant last summer. Well, I’m happy to report that this is the book that helped me get out of that struggling rut I was in.

I really loved Vaughn and Oakley. Vaughn is this kickass, snarky, smart seventeen year old girl who had been dealt some pretty shitty cards. And Oakley is this sexy, smartass, guitar playing, twenty year old popstar turned rockstar. And the two of them together is just pure amazingness. I loved them as a couple both when it was a fake relationship and then even more when they finally admitted it to each other that it was for real.

I loved the complexity each of the characters had. Vaughn and her family (older sister and younger twin brothers) and Oakley with his estranged parents, both had stories to tell and I really loved reading them and feeling what they were feeling.

By the end of this book, even though it ends with no cliffhanger, I was left wanting more! I’d love to see more between Vaughn and Oakley. I loved their relationship and I’d love to see them conquer more of the world and I’d love to see more swoonworthy moments!

My Firstlife is over, but my Everlife is only now beginning.
With her last living breath, Tenley "Ten" Lockwood made her choice and picked her realm in the Everlife. Now, as the war between Troika and Myriad rages, she must face the consequences.
Because Ten possesses a rare supernatural ability to absorb and share light, the Powers That Be have the highest expectations for her futureand the enemy wants her neutralized. Fighting to save her Secondlife, she must learn about her realm from the ground up while launching her first mission: convincing a select group of humans to join her side before they die. No pressure, right?
But Ten's competition is Killian, the boy she can't forgetthe one who gave up everything for her happiness. He has only one shot at redemption: beating Ten at a game she's never even played. As their throw-downs heat up, so do their undeniable feelings, and soon, Ten will have to make another choice. Loveor victory. "

My Thoughts

So, this series is my first foray with Gena Showalter and I am not disappointed. I was a little worried because I really enjoyed Firstlife a lot and was nervous that book 2 would have the dreaded second book slump, but it didn’t! It kept me hooked all the way until the end and I really cannot wait until the last book in this series. I also cannot wait until I dive into more of Gena’s books because I had a great time reading her writing!

I love the world and the characters that Gena immersed me in and there was a lot of growth within this sequel. And it is also pretty roller coastery, but I personally love it when a book makes you feel like you’re on a roller coaster. And I love that her writing/storytelling keeps you on your toes!

I highly recommend this series and do not fear, this book definitely lives up to the first one and I’m sure Gena will blow us away with the final book!

This was my first experience with Katie McGarry and it won’t be the last! I really enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and the concept. There were times that the book bothered me. In terms of the main character, Emily. But then, I remembered, her parents are causing most of these problems. Not her. This […]

I love him for being here with me. I love him for not telling me that everything will be all right. I love him because he knows what life is like, what it can do, and is always honest about it. It’s like I’m living inside a mirror. I see things, I do things, but […]
