On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a “witchery,” a magical skill that sets them apart from others.
In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all too well.
Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It’s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.
Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her—but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safi’s hotheaded impulsiveness.
Safi and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and ship’s captain) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.
THIS BOOK. This book was spectacular! It was so hyped up and it so lived up to all the hype! I love Susan Dennard and her writing. And this book is top notch! One of my all time favorites for sure! I need Windwitch right now! I can’t believe I have to wait another year for the second installment!
If you wanted to, Safiya, you could bend and shape the world.
Truthwitch is about a lot of things: freedom, war, survival, romance, but most of all this is about friendship. And not just friendship but female friendship. It is so rare that I read a book and the majority of the book is catered towards friendships, but this one is. Safiya and Iseult would die for each other. They complement each other so well and they are the kinds of friends that everyone should strive to be like.
“If you were that sort of girl, then…” Merik lifted a hand to her jaw–tentative at first, then more confident when she didn’t pull away. “Then I would start here and move down your throat.” His fingers whispered over her neck, to her collarbone–and Merik was pleased by how punctuated her breaths grew. How much her lips trembled.
Truthwitch is so epic-ly awesome. So well written. So breathtaking. So, so, so many things. Sooz has blown me away with this book and I look up to her even more than I already had before. She has created a story that will live with me forever. Characters that I will never forget. And she has given me more inspiration and will with my writing than ever before. All with THIS BOOK.
“Give it to me now, Polly, or I shall castrate you with a fork.”
If you like epic fantasies, witches, romance, but most of all, if you love reading about friendships and the stakes that friends should and will go for one another. Then this book needs to be at the top of your list to read. Hype can ruin a lot of things, but do not let hype ruin this for you, because I assure you it is worth all the hype that it has received. There is a reason for all the hype surrounding Truthwitch. It’s because it is so beautifully rendered that it’s hard to not want to tell everyone you know to read it.
Who the rut is that Nubrevnan Windwitch? And: He should really learn how to button a shirt.
If you haven’t read this yet. What are you waiting for? Go read it and then let me know how you felt about it. And give it more than the first 60 pages. The first few chapters are getting you into the world, but once you get past that, I promise you it is worth it!
Sometimes justice was all about the small victories.
Sidenote: Sooz, thank you for writing this book. It is an absolute favorite of mine and I cannot see where you take Windwitch. I will forever support you! 🙂 <3
