Blog Name: Belle of the Literati
What’s the story behind the blog name?
Growing up, and still today, I love, love, love Disney movies and, of course, their princesses. Belle was my absolute FAVORITE growing up because I felt like she was just like me. She had dark hair and she loved BOOKS!! She was the ultimate princess to look up to and I just so badly wanted to be like her. In fact, I still have a life goal of playing Belle at Disney World one day…hey, a girl can dream, right?!
Why did you start to book blog and how long have you been book blogging?
I started blogging late September 2012 and I am loving it! I started after going to a book signing and another blogger was there and asked if I blogged, I said no and she said writing reviews and blogging are a great way to help authors get exposure and all this stuff. I had been thinking about it for awhile actually because none of my friends are big readers so I would finish all these amazing books and then look around and be like oh…ooook, I have nobody to talk about this with. So it is very cathartic for me to be able to write down my feelings after reading a book. AND I have met some amazing book bloggers! I never knew there were people out there like me! J
Where is your favorite place to read?
In the winter, on my couch, nestled into a corner with either a coffee or water bottle and a blanket.
In the summer-outside on the patio with my sunglasses on and some nice sunlight tanning me J
Hardcopy, hands down. I read ebooks out of necessity on my sister’s iPad but I really don’t like it. I love the feel of a real, solid book in my hands. I like seeing the accomplishment sitting on my shelf and my history of reading staring back at me. AND I judge people on what they read, we all do it don’t even deny it, so if people are sitting at Starbucks or the airport with their Kindles and Nooks, how the heck am I supposed to creep to see what they’re reading?! I wanna know! Maybe that book has an interesting cover or title and I want to look into it…now I can’t because you’re hiding behind your makeshift computer book. Grr…
Favorite book of all-time and why?
Oh wow, uuuuumm. I have favorites in all genres/stages of my life. The Giver by Lois Lowry while I was young; first book I ever read on my own and it is just phenomenal. The Harry Potter series while growing up, and if I had a gun to my head and HAD to say my favorite book it would be these. Just so much inspirational amazingness in these books, I could talk about it all day long, no joke, all day. To Kill A Mockingbird will always be a favorite of mine. Oh, there are so many more but these are the staples that I always stick with.
Do you have any blogs/bloggers that you look up to or that inspire you (feel free to name-drop)?
I love Jamie at The Perpetual Page Turner! She is so nice and so funny and she has amazing reviews and posts, absolutely adore her blog! Daisy at Between the Pages is my book soulmate. We have similar tastes and gush over historical fiction all the time. Her blog is amazing too if you haven’t checked it out.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to read…oh besides that?? I am head over heels in love with traveling. I did a 3 week Europe excursion last year that changed my life. I can’t wait to go back! I went to Toronto a month ago with my Australian friend. I love going to Disney World. And I’m tentatively planning a trip back to Italyso I can go to Sicilyand visit my homeland J
Name a dessert, a color, a drink?
Cake, emerald green, skinny caramel latte
If you could be one character, who would you be and why?
Oooh this one was so hard to think of an answer to but when I did it was so obvious…Hermione Granger. Without a doubt. I grew up with her. She inspired me. She taught me it was okay to be smart and dorky and do your own thing. She is courageous and brave and stands up for what she believes in. And she goes to Hogwarts…sign me up, laddie, I am there!
How many books (on average) do you read a month?
Oof…umm, 10 maybe? 10-12 depending on what’s going on that month J
What are your favorite book-to-movie adaptations? Why?
As a rule, I am so not a fan of book-to-movie adaptations, my stance is to just leave books alone haha but there are some really well done ones though so I can’t even be that harsh all the time. I loved The Help, I think the movie really did capture the feel of the story. The Hunger Games was quite good and very well done. I am totally fan-girling over the new Mortal Instruments trailer, too at the moment. I feel like all the Harry Potter movies are amazing!
Do you have any book boyfriends? If so, name them and explain why?
Oh goodness, where do I start? I can’t explain why because we’ll be here forever so I’ll just list them.
Leon from the Birthmarked series
Hector from Girl of Fire and Thorns
Matthew de Clairmont from A Discovery of Witches
Will from Infernal Devices…and Jem…sorry can’t decide
Alessandro from Arcadia Awakens
Jace from Mortal Instruments
Akiva from Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Name 5 books that everyone should at least read once:
1. The Giver by Lois Lowry
2. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
3. Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
4. The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins
5. The Help by Kathryn Stockett
