After a brutal nuclear war, the United States was left decimated. A small group of survivors eventually banded together, but only after more conflict over which family would govern the new nation. The Westfalls lost. Fifty years later, peace and control are maintained by marrying the daughters of the losing side to the sons of the winning group in a yearly ritual.
This year, it is my turn.
My name is Ivy Westfall, and my mission is simple: to kill the president’s son—my soon-to-be husband—and restore the Westfall family to power.
But Bishop Lattimer is either a very skilled actor or he’s not the cruel, heartless boy my family warned me to expect. He might even be the one person in this world who truly understands me. But there is no escape from my fate. I am the only one who can restore the Westfall legacy.
Because Bishop must die. And I must be the one to kill him…
My mission is not to make him happy and bear his children and be his wife. My mission is to kill him.
He didn’t save me, though. He allowed me the freedom to save myself, which is the very best type of rescue.
“Because I’m in love with you, Ivy,” he whispers. “Giving up on you isn’t an option.”
I want to be someone strong and brave enough to make hard choices. But I want to be fair and loving enough to make the right ones.

This definitely sounds like a book I'd greatly enjoy! I can't believe I've not really read any reviews on it until now. I will have to pick up a copy! I'm glad that you enjoyed it. Great review! 🙂
Krystianna @ Downright Dystopian
thank you! I really enjoyed it and already lent out my copy to one of my friends who loves dystopians. 🙂
I think I may be one of the only people who dislike this book aha! Don’t get me wrong the premise really sparked my interest and I even requested it at my local library to have a read but by the time I started it the story just fell flat to me. I just could not connect with the writing or the characters and the plot to me was very predictable. I’m glad you enjoyed though!
Hey, not everyone can like every book, right?! 🙂 thanks for stopping by!
