Following her pitch-perfect debut Open Road Summer, Emery Lord pens another gorgeous story of best friends, new love, & second chances.
Brimming with heartfelt relationships and authentic high-school dynamics The Start of Me and You proves that it’s never too late for second chances.
It’s been a year since it happened—when Paige Hancock’s first boyfriend died in an accident. After shutting out the world for two years, Paige is finally ready for a second chance at high school . . . and she has a plan. First: Get her old crush, Ryan Chase, to date her—the perfect way to convince everyone she’s back to normal. Next: Join a club—simple, it’s high school after all. But when Ryan’s sweet, nerdy cousin, Max, moves to town and recruits Paige for the Quiz Bowl team (of all things!) her perfect plan is thrown for a serious loop. Will Paige be able to face her fears and finally open herself up to the life she was meant to live?

In friendship we are all debtors. We all owe each other for a thousand small kindnesses, for little moments of grace in the chaos.

Knowing what happens is different from knowing how it happens. And the getting there is the best part.

Love extra, even if it means you hurt extra, too.

We’re all Elizabeths when we need to be.

When it all closes in, there are only two kinds of people: best friends and everyone else.

I adored this book! This was my April Uppercase Box and I’m so glad that it was one of the books that were sent from Uppercase. Emery Lord’s debut novel, Open Road Summer has been on my TBR list for a while and I’ve heard that her writing is gorgeous. After reading The Start of Me and You, I have to agree. I absolutely loved this book. I can’t wait to read Open Road Summer and any of her future books!

This book is about friendships, family, love, and second chances. It was the perfect summer read. There are not many books out there that are focused a lot on friendships and I appreciated that aspect so much while reading this book. Yes, there’s romance in it, but I felt like the romance took second over the friendship angle. And I’m totally okay with that. You don’t see friendships driven as much as they should be!

I loved the four girl group consisting of Paige, Tessa, Morgan, and Kayleigh. The group was perfect. They were true friends. Each of them would have their small acts of friendship and they put whatever they could into the group. I loved them all. Girl power all the way!

Max Watson. Oh, I how love him! He was nerdy and smart and cute and sweet and loves FIREFLY! He is the high school version of my fiance. And I loved reading about my fiance. HAHA. Okay, so Max is probably a little more nerdy than my fiance. But, I loved him all the same!

The way the book ended was cute, but I wanted more. I wanted the summer of Max and Paige. I wanted to see their first date after they came clean to each other about their feelings. I just want more! All-in-all, though, this book was perfect. I will definitely be reading more of Emery Lord and most likely going to be buying Open Road Summer really soon!

Let’s talk about it.
