passage, n.i. A brief section of music composed of a series of notes and flourishes.ii. A journey by water; a voyage.iii. The transition from one place to another, across space and time.
In one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has traveled not just miles but years from home. And she’s inherited a legacy she knows nothing about from a family whose existence she’s never heard of. Until now.
Nicholas Carter is content with his life at sea, free from the Ironwoods—a powerful family in the colonies—and the servitude he’s known at their hands. But with the arrival of an unusual passenger on his ship comes the insistent pull of the past that he can’t escape and the family that won’t let him go so easily. Now the Ironwoods are searching for a stolen object of untold value, one they believe only Etta, Nicholas’ passenger, can find. In order to protect her, he must ensure she brings it back to them— whether she wants to or not.
Together, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the traveler who will do anything to keep the object out of the Ironwoods’ grasp. But as they get closer to the truth of their search, and the deadly game the Ironwoods are playing, treacherous forces threaten to separate Etta not only from Nicholas but from her path home . . . forever

My Thoughts

It is so hard to put my thoughts into words with this book. It was beautiful. The story was beautiful, the writing was beautiful. Honestly, this entire book was beautiful and I really don’t think that there is much for me to say other than I really loved this book. This was my first Alexandra Bracken novel and it definitely won’t be the last. I am even more excited to read her Darkest Minds trilogy after reading this book because the writing was just splendid!

I really enjoyed the Time Travel aspect within this novel. I was super hesitant about reading it because even though I love time travel (I mean, come on, DOCTOR WHO is my love <3) but there are times where I get super confused with timelines and whatnot. There were times where I got a little confused, but not like I was expecting. I really loved how Alexandra did the time travel. I also really enjoyed the historical scenes within the novel. It was so interesting to be transported in time to see the history of our world.

I really liked the the romance between Etta and Nicholas! It was breathtakingly beautiful. I really enjoyed watching their relationship grow and I really enjoyed watching them complement each other. And it’s so great that it’s not an insta-love, it’s a slow burn romance.

I definitely recommend this book. It’s such a great reading experience and you really get thrown into all of the amazing adventures. The only thing is that if you can’t handle cliffhangers, don’t read this until after Wayfarer comes out, because I am kicking myself for that. I’m usually okay with cliffhangers, but this one is just… ugh brutal. But, even with the cliffhanger, it is an amazingly, beautiful book and you should pick it up!

After loving The Darkest Minds trilogy I’ve been dying to read this since I first heard about it! TDM was amazing and I instantly added Alexander to my author watch list. The fact that it’s a time-travel romance with no insta-love has just got me more anxious to read.

I can’t wait to get my hands on this one! Alexander Bracken is a favourite author of mine I just love her writing and could read her work for days. This new one of hers sounds incredible and totally different to her TDM series.

    • I can’t compare the 2 series, since I haven’t read TDM yet. But this book definitely made me love Alex’s writing and has put her on my favorites list! Hope you get to enjoy this one soon! Thanks for stopping by!
