A burning wedding dress, a runaway bride dancing around the flames in her satin undies, and one unsuspecting Texas lawman trying to do his duty—all ingredients for trouble with a capital T.
Sheriff Lucas McCann has been burned once before by a city woman and is bound and determined never to be in that position again. Until Ellie Perryman comes along, with her china blue eyes and feisty attitude, in need of his protection from her ex-fiancé, Thomas, who won't take no for an answer. When Thomas turns to stalking and endangers Ellie's life by running her car off the road, Lucas' lawman instincts take over. His head keeps telling him to keep things professional, only his heart won’t listen. Why does it seem the best place for her is locked in his arms?
Ellie Perryman was ready to write off all men when she ran away to the country—not find another one. However, the by-the-book sheriff won't stay out of her business. He claims it’s his duty to protect her. She doesn’t want to be anyone’s responsibility. It doesn't help that the townspeople and one special canine protector have other ideas about what they think she needs...a happily-ever-after with their sexy as hell town sheriff.
This was such a cute romance! It was especially fun to read as my wedding is this weekend. So, I thought it was hysterical to read about a runaway bride. 🙂 But it was a seriously cute romance. It was light and fun and really just what I needed in my life right about now. (With wedding stuff going awry, I just needed something fun and light, and adorable to read).
I really liked how Ellie and Lucas complement each other. And I found it hysterical how they met: Lucas is a sheriff and Ellie was breaking the law. 🙂 When characters can not only make you like them, but when they complement each other, those are the best. Because when characters complement each other they become more lifelike and I really enjoyed reading Ellie and Lucas’ story.
All the while, I was also in love with the setting. I love city girls who are country at heart (hell, I am one of them). But to read Ellie’s story set in the country, was what really drew me into this story. I am obsessed with country romances, men in flannel and cowboy hats, and best of all the country music that stems from it. So, if you like country romances, definitely check this one out!
I’m really hoping to see more of Debra Holt and possible cameos of Ellie and Lucas in her future books!
About the Author
Born and raised in the Lone Star state of Texas, Debra grew up among horses, cowboys, wide open spaces, and real Texas Rangers. Pride in her state and ancestry knows no bounds and it is these heroes and heroines she loves to write about the most. She also draws upon a variety of life experiences including working with abused children, caring for baby animals at a major zoo, and planning high-end weddings (ah, romance!).
Debra’s real pride and joys, however, are her son, an aspiring film actor, and a daughter with aspirations to join the Federal Bureau of Investigation. (more story ideas!) When she isn’t busy writing about tall Texans and feisty heroines, she can be found cheering on her Texas Tech Red Raiders, or heading off on another cruise adventure. She read her first romance…Janet Dailey’s Fiesta San Antonio, over thirty years ago and became hooked on the genre. Writing contemporary western romances, is both her passion and dream come true, and she hopes her books will bring smiles…and sighs… to all who believe in happily-ever-after’s.
