Where Have I Been & What Have I Been Reading?

Posted May 24, 2021 by Stephanie in Spotlight, Update / 1 Comment

I’m Back!

Goodness gracious, has it been a long time since I’ve written a blog post! Over the past couple of years, my posts have been few and far between. Many things have happened in my life over the past few years and then we all experienced the downfalls that the pandemic had caused everyone over the year of 2020. Some socials have grown in popularity (I’m looking at you TikTok) while others stray away from because of all the drama. For me, the year 2020 let me spend time with my family in a way I feel everyone had taken granted for in a long time. I took a step back from the day to day and focused more on my family and attempted to finish some manuscripts. While the former has blossomed, the latter has struggled. My creativity definitely struggled in 2020 and it’s only until recently where I feel like my creativity is starting to come back full swing.

I started a BookTube in July/August of 2020 and I’m happy to say that even though I took a slight hiatus, I have some videos filmed that I just have to edit and post. I’ve been reading about the same, maybe a little more quantity wise. But I’ve swerved the type of reading. I’m reading almost only romance with historical romance being at the forefront of that. I do read some mystery/thrillers, when I get in that mood. But for the most part I’m happy reading whatever genre as long as there is a love story within it. I do have a goal of adding more mysteries/thrillers and other genres without a romance sub plot.

My kids are growing so fast. The days are long but the years are so short. I’m not sure who originally said that, but it is truer than I ever thought imaginable. And some days I feel like I don’t get anything in for me because I’m busy with them, but I wouldn’t trade that for the world.

As for my job. Well, I unfortunately lost my job in April of 2020 and have been looking ever since. I’ve been looking more all remote or at least mostly remote because that would suit our family’s needs the best. Before I was commuting and my in laws would be watching the kids for 10-12 hours a day and I’d get to only spend an hour to an hour and a half with my babies and that’s just not ideal for us. It’s been tough, but we’re working through it and I’m still looking. But until then, I’m going to get back to growing my blog, YouTube, and Instagram accounts and work on getting back into a steady groove of being within the bookish community.

My friend, Dana, had started a book club in the summer of 2020 with one of her friends and that book club has been a saving grace for me and it’s kept my spirits up. The book club has made me realize just how much I’ve missed being a part of the bookish community and I’m going to be making more efforts of being active within the community. If you have any interest in joining her book club (we read mainly historical romance currently) just check out @toallthenerdygirls or @bookish.kelly on Instagram and they can hook you up!

Now, for what you really came here for. My favorite books that I’ve read in the past year

As you can see, these are some of my favorites that I’ve read since April of 2020. And my reading tastes have altered greatly since I was a full on blogger. I do still read some YA but it’s usually a YA paranormal or YA fantasy. Otherwise, I gravitate mostly towards Adult and heavy on the romance 😛

Let’s Talk About It

What have you been up to this past year? What are some of your favorite reads you’ve read recently? Have you read any of the above books?

A Deep Dive Into R.S. Grey

Posted December 6, 2019 by Stephanie in Discussion, Spotlight / 0 Comments

Guys, this past November was not only a great writing month for me, but it was also a great reading month. I read a total of 8 books, which is not really a whole lot in the scheme of things but I read 8 books during the month of NaNoWriMo. And what do they all have in common? All 8 books were written by R.S. Grey.

R.S. Grey is an author I first discovered in February earlier this year. I read her book Not So Nice Guy and I really enjoyed it. So much that I put quite a few of her books on my TBR. Well my friends, I’m happy to say that she is now an author that I want to read her books the second they become available. Her writing is engaging and funny and easy to delve into the world she creates. It was seriously so easy to binge read her books because she just captures you. Either from a funny moment or something serious happening. Her books definitely remind me of watching a romantic comedy movie.

I’ve also listened to the audiobooks during my driving commutes and the narrators do a great job as well. As soon as I read two of her books in November, I quickly knew that I was diving deep into the world of R.S. Grey and I want all of you to join me! A lot of the settings take place in a small town in Texas or the main characters are from there, etc. The main characters are relatable and funny and unique in their own ways. And R.S. Grey is not afraid to knock her characters down and I really liked how I felt like the main character could be a version of myself. That’s how relatable they can be.

I still have quite a few of her books to read so I’m only in the middle of this journey but I can guarantee you that the second R.S. Grey has another book published, I’m getting my grabby paws on it! So, who is with me? Who wants to take a deep dive into the world of R.S. Grey?!

The next one on my docket to read of hers, is her latest release:

A Deep Dive Into R.S. GreyHis Royal Highness by R.S. Grey

I’ve spent eight years wishing I’d fall out of love with Derek Knightley. Blowing out birthday candles, chasing after shooting stars, making it rain spare change into mall fountains—every time it’s the same wish: forget about Derek.

But the day he walks back into my life, I realize there are two things time has yet to soften: my feelings for him and his chiseled jawline.

It’s infuriating that my heart still races when he walks into a room. I refuse to fall prey to old unrequited love, so I decide the less I’m around him, the better. Avoidance is key.

Unfortunately, Derek isn’t going to make it easy. As a teenager, I would have crawled on my hands and knees to attract his attention. Now I can’t seem to escape it.

I’m not sure why he’s bothering. He’s not just out of my league—he’s out of my tax bracket. As the sole heir to the Knightley Company, he’s as close to American royalty as you can get. As for me, I’m just a part-time princess at Knightley’s flagship magical theme park.

I spend my days playing make-believe, but Derek has no use for fairytales. His unwavering confidence makes it clear he thinks I’ll surrender in the end.

He’s just biding his time.Making me sweat.

His Royal Highness always gets what he wants. And he wants me.

xoxo
