The second installment in the epic Starbound trilogy introduces a new pair of star-crossed lovers on two sides of a bloody war.
Jubilee Chase and Flynn Cormac should never have met.
Lee is captain of the forces sent to Avon to crush the terraformed planet's rebellious colonists, but she has her own reasons for hating the insurgents.
Rebellion is in Flynn's blood. Terraforming corporations make their fortune by recruiting colonists to make the inhospitable planets livable, with the promise of a better life for their children. But they never fulfilled their promise on Avon, and decades later, Flynn is leading the rebellion.
Desperate for any advantage in a bloody and unrelentingly war, Flynn does the only thing that makes sense when he and Lee cross paths: he returns to base with her as prisoner. But as his fellow rebels prepare to execute this tough-talking girl with nerves of steel, Flynn makes another choice that will change him forever. He and Lee escape the rebel base together, caught between two sides of a senseless war.

So when I found out that the second book in the Starbound trilogy was NOT about Lilac and Tarver, I was upset. Because I loved them so much! And I was so upset to find out that I would not be going on adventures with them. But then I found out that it was a companion series meaning that they would still be in the story just not the main focus of the second one. I felt a bit better. And then I read This Shattered World and I fell in love all over again!

Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner know what they’re doing! This series is just so perfectly woven together! It in a way reminds me of how The Lunar Chronicles is set up with introducing a new fairy tale with each book but all the characters have the same goal… That’s kind of how the Starbound trilogy is like. Each book focuses on a different set of characters but the original characters are there and they all have the same goal… bring down La Roux Industries.

Now, I’m not going to lie. One of my favorite parts of the book was when Lilac and Tarver showed up. But I did fall in love with (Jubi)Lee and Flynn. I loved them more than I thought I would and I am so happy for that!

I don’t really know what more to say without giving things away. But if you haven’t yet read this series, do so now! Especially if you’re into space, sci-fi, and romance. This is a great series and I love it so much! I cannot wait to see how Amie and Meagan finish off the series with Their Fractured Light which comes out this December!! (December 1st, 2015). <3

Let’s talk about it!

Luxury spaceliner Icarus suddenly plummets from hyperspace into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive – alone. Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a cynical war hero. Both journey across the eerie deserted terrain for help. Everything changes when they uncover the truth.
The Starbound Trilogy: Three worlds. Three love stories. One enemy.

“Major, to what extent did you act upon your feelings for Miss LaRoux?”
“Excuse me?”
“How am I supposed to answer that question?”

I know a thousand different smiles, each with its own nuanced shade of meaning, but I don’t know how to reach the few feet away to touch this person next to me. I don’t know how to talk to him. Not when it’s real.

But who names a starship the Icarus? What kind of man possesses that much hubris, that he dares it to fall?

Then she smiles, and it turns out she has dimples, and it’s all over.

I could tell myself that I’m doing it because she’ll get back to her feet just to spite me—but the truth is, I really just want to piss her off. Keeping her moving is a bonus.

I cannot believe I waited THIS long to read this book! I half read it and half listened to it. I’ve been doing that a lot lately with my 30-40 min drives to and from work. And let me tell you not only was it enjoyable to read but also to listen to! It was very well done! And for all you Doctor Who fans the beginning of this book totally reminded me of the Titanic episode! That’s all I was picturing and I think it made me love this book even more!

I can’t wait to read the second book in this trilogy even though I’m a little upset I won’t be continuing on with Lilac and Tarver’s story (each book deals with a different story with different characters). Because I fell in love with them! But I’m hoping I will at least see a cameo of them in the next book. But one of my favorite things with this book was Lilac and Tarver.

Lilac and Tarver both grow within this book. Lilac starts off as a spoiled rich girl (which she is but it was only a facade). Deep down she is a loving and kind person. She just has to play this spoiled persona to keep people at bay. She went through a relationship when she was younger that her father completely destroyed and in order to protect her heart and other men she played the part of a spoiled rich girl. Tarver is a sarcastic, snarky, down to earth soldier. He didn’t have much growing up to do but he did grow within the story.

Their romance was perfect. It wasn’t an insta-love. It was a slow burn romance. And they actually disliked each other for a good portion of the book. So they went from meeting and flirting to hating each other and depending on each other to flat out falling in love with each other. It was so great seeing all of the phases. I truly fell in love with them as a couple.

If you haven’t read this book yet. Please do. It is so good! The writing is good. The story is enjoyable. There were times that I was caught off guard. The alien aspect was portrayed well. And I cannot wait to read the rest of the books in this trilogy! As well as other books by BOTH authors!

Let’s talk about it. Did you read These Broken Stars? What did you think? Did you fall in love like I did? Leave your thoughts in the comments! 🙂
